Yellow Umbrella

Yellow Umbrella

A Poem by Jennie Baron

Out on the street on a rainy day

A woman with a yellow umbrella caught my eye.

She’ll never know how the sight affected me

How cheery and jaunty it looked

Amid the gloom,

The fog on my car windows,

And the rain streaming down on them.

Please, please never let me be

One of those insufferably boring,

Eminently forgettable

Black-umbrella people.

A red one would be nice,

But I’m going to buy myself

The brightest yellow one I can find.

Lovely, Jennie! This is a great testament to those who strive to be different and not fall into the constant mold, which I can assume is the "black umbrella". I love the choice of color for the umbrella, what inspired it? I myself have a blue one (with polka dots) haha. :)

Enjoyed it a lot! Well done :):)

Brightness. Light in the dark. It's almost like a feather happily dancing in a storm, very amusing.

Oh this is lovely! I like the way you have written your poem from a true life event. (I too am constantly getting ideas from things I see.) Well done.

Thank you again!
Not only umbrella but my dresses, shoes, shirts, and pants are black as well. I love how this poem has affected me and how it led me to reflect of my own dullness. Haha. Next time, I'll wear bright colors and have a brighter perspective in life. Great job, Miss Jennie!

So much appreciated, Mary. Thanks for the kind words!
Something bright to cheer up a gloomy, cloudy day is always appreciated and admired.
Reflection on the experience with joy!
I never have good luck with umbrellas though--they either break or come up missing.
The wind tends to damage the ones I purchase and make them useless.
however, I love seeing colorful ones against the wet, gray clouds and tumbling skies.

Oh yes Jennie. I nice big yellow umbrella not only keeps the rain off, but provides
the sunshine that is missing.

Even the dullest, dreariest of our days can be brightened by the "yellow umbrella"
we all carry with us, within us.

So happy that you enjoyed it! Thanks much for stopping by to read.
Jennie: Once again, I can tell you're an accomplished poet. I loved it. I wrote a poem, never revisited and I swear, the lady had a large yellow purse: I actually began with yellow. To be unique, to find yourself, no matter what society's dogma places upon us is the way to go. Yellow Umbrella, wow, I wish I had one. I've always expressed myself through fashion, and once my daughter said to someone, she dresses differently. I didn't ask her, but it made me smile. I don't mean green zebra striped tights, with a purple scarf, but the challenge to find something different is fun to me, because, we all are individuals. No? Thank you once again. Great poem! Dale
