Love as I See It

Love as I See It

A Poem by Jennie Baron
"

This grew out of some discussion I've had in the past few days about the nature of love.

"

Some say true love doesn’t exist.

Some speak of it as a sweet, but quaint,

Outdated notion.

Some speak of love as a disease

An addiction

A codependent trap

In which we lose ourselves

Until there’s no longer a “me,” only “we.”

Some are looking for someone to “complete” them.

Others say love is the union of two already “complete” souls.

I say we shouldn’t overthink it.

I say if we wait to be self-actualized,

We’ll wait forever; at least I would!

We won’t know the joy of a love

That allows for give and take

For compromise

That gives both space to grow,

Because if you give just a little of yourself

You can get so much in return.

We won’t know the pleasure of having someone

Who knows us intimately and accepts us anyway,

Makes us feel secure,

The simple joy of having a companion

To share the good things in life.

Yes, you're absolutely right. Love's a sharing of "good" things in life. It shares both pain and pleasure; heat of spring & coldness of winter; emotions of heart & tears of eyes; faith in compassion & belief in "true-lies"... which're utmost truth, but still they ain't find it. Beautiful imagery you've come up with. Enjoyed reading your thought invoking poetry!

Thank you for reading, and I'm thrilled that you enjoyed it!
I agree with my friend Coyote John very wise words and true.

But Marriage isn't to make us happy if we aren't already happy with ourselves.

If we are unhappy when we marry for the first time and still
not with that person it isn't them it is us my
mother taught me of inner happiness and we must have God in our lives
be happy with ourselves who we are not trying to be a people pleaser.

I am here to please God but I will help others and show my Mate love
as I am very loving and very forgiving that is love also being forgiving
accepting them and Encouraging them not putting them down or reminding them of their faults we are human and will fail with things were not perfect
get to know the person you're to be with all your life.

my Marriage hasn't been easy but God
has had his hand on it and it has it's ups and downs
and I stay cheery but I have my moments.

I give my son words of wisdom as well
and teach him what love is and isn't so he understands
he is a smart and kind young man Raising him up to be a Humble
gentleman He's in ROTC Junior Navel Class in High school he's
in 9th grade quite Proud of him.

My father in law
was in the Navy and my Grandpa was in
the armed air forces of the Navy.

Thank you for sharing this wonderful write

You're very welcome.
A very poignant take on finding love in its entirety as long as we stay off the high horse of unrealistic expectations. Great work. A revealing & truthful write.

This is so true. I've always said the best part of a loving relationship is when you know each other so well that he knows how you like the toothpaste on your toothbrush.

I think Love is about continual learning and yearning.
Since I am a spiritualist I have somewhat a similar take on love.

Again, I found this cheerful, hopeful message in this. Another enjoyable read.

Lovely! Absolutely stunning! I'm soooo glad I finally managed to check out some of your works, Jennie, and that this was the first one that I clicked on. You really hit the nail on the head with the concepts of true love and how it can be defined and perceived. Pretty sure I read this three times before reminding myself to leave a review. Great, great job! Well done! :)
