Paper Doll

Paper Doll

A Poem by The Autumn Faerie
"

A satire of what society does to girls.

"

Grab a girl, a girl for me, ’n put ‘er on display-- for all to see!
Build ‘er up, ’n tear ‘er down-- it don’t matter with all around.
Fake a smile, shed a tear-- it’s a good time with everybody ‘ere.
Strip ‘er clothes, dress ‘er up nice-- soon she’ll be dolled up thrice.
Apply foundation, ’n line ‘er eyes--  it’s okay sweetie, don’t cry.
Straight’n ‘er hair,  add a frilly bow--  don’t leave a stray a woe!
Shave ‘er legs, ’n darken ’er tan-- come 'n ‘elp--  anybody can!
Take the wallflo’er, make ‘er dance, now there!  ‘ere’s ‘er chance!
She may not like it, refuse to play, but every puppet’s got ‘er day.
She may whine, cry, ’n complain, but don’t dare let ‘er beauty wan!
So she wants a book?  Pay no heed-- for a mind, she’s got no need!
She’s a beauty, not a beast-- she don’t need brains, not in the least!

Author's Note

The Autumn Faerie
The terrible grammar is intended, as much as it killed me...
I wrote this while at work with my mom in a library (I help her out at the end of the school year).
It's extremely different from my normal writing, but I like the message in it.
I have no idea what possessed me to write this, either.

Wow..the way you structured this poem is like artwork.
Great job on telling how life can be for girls who are forced to play a part no matter how smart they are.
Bravo

Haha. I'm a grammar freak too! But all is well. I enjoyed it. I imagined it like a chick with a brittish or english acsent telling a story. Very nice.

I think this has a very strong message written in an "original" format. If one adds music to it, it can be a modern Irish folk song.

awesome. I like it. And its very true, society changes alot of people, especially girls, and not always for the best.

some girls know how to tell them to shove it up their a*s though.
