Sonnet 8 (Shakespearean Style)

Sonnet 8 (Shakespearean Style)

A Poem by Jeff Miller

My readers say my work is sagacious

They say I have amazing talent

However, I think these claims outrageous

Alas, sometimes my talent doth torment.

‘Tis said a picture tells a thousand words

I want my poetry to tell you more

And express more than the words you hath heard

I want to divulge humanity’s core.

But, I pray I shall not fail you all,

That I shall meet society’s own needs,

Hark! I shall heed opportunity’s call

I shall greet it with my poetic deeds.

  I shall not let fear interrupt my flow;

  Watch! I shall rise above the status quo!

I liked it, 'However, I think these claims outrageous' and 'I shall not let fear interrupt my flow' expressed a universal truth most writers suffer.
