Pentameter

A poem about meter(metre) with 5 syllables in each line.

I do hate meter

It is not needed

I want to express

Not be suppressed

Why restrict your thoughts?

Just to feel distraught

Just leave it alone

I don’t want to be

Stuck to such guidelines

How else can I vent

Than through my own words?

Isn’t it absurd?

Let me write my way

So I can display

What is on my mind?

Not five syllables

Author's Note

This is a poem, which follows a 5 syllable count, about why I don't like meter. I think it's cool if you want to use meter...but poetry is different today. You should be able to just write and express yourself without being confined to only a certain amount of syllables. It can still be a great poem with a lot of meaning...even if there is no meter. Meter is a great form, but you shouldn't have to use it.

Yes meter is that which can be considered a "pain", and I agree in part with you, by the way, expressed very well as far as poetic form......but, after learning more about meter, rhyme, accent, etc., I consider and view poetry in a totally different way, and it causes me to stop and think more when I used to just slap words on a page and call it poetry..........well, it was but it often lacked clear meaning, and did not have the same flow as it does today...........so, I guess I see both sides of the line........smiles
