Fortune Cookie SonnetA Poem by Jeff MillerIn one of my creative writing classes we were assigned a free write. To open up a fortune cookie we were given and use the fortune as our prompt. My prompt was "Your loyalties will be rewarded."Your loyalties will be rewarded As long as you put in your time Through all affairs, even the sordid And your rewards will be sublime Your sublime reward, however, is a mystery Wealth? Kinship? Money? It is not clear to see However, the gifts you reap shall be sweeter than honey But...do not let your heart be filled with greed Appreciate all your possessions Worry only about what you need Instead of getting caught up in a lottery obsession As long as your priorities are sorted Your loyalties will be rewarded © 2010 Jeff MillerReviews
