Sonnet of High SchoolA Poem by Jeff MillerAlso titled Secret Life Sonnet, this was for a writing assignment in my creative writing class about the secret life of high school and the cliques and tribes
High school Like dogs, we all find a pack It’s the one place where we feel the need to conform to be cool But sometimes our peers throw us off track Only in our mind and our thoughts can we be free Not restricted by social laws Free to know the person you really want to be Not to fear the RiverHawks claws To be an individual Athletes need muscles to break tackles To ignore all peer pressure, even the subliminal But we, the people, need our mental muscle to break society’s shackles I am me, not afraid to be myself So, do not group me with others on a single shelf © 2009 Jeff MillerFeatured Review
