PrologueA Chapter by Jedi-Sith19Friday, August 13th, 2015... “I don’t know, babe, I
mean, Aaron Rodgers is way better than Antonio Brown. Aaron is my man,” Zane
Helming nearly shouts, walking down the darkened street with his sexy fiancé
beside him. “But, I thought I
was your man,” Alexander fake pouts, earning a kiss from his lover. “Babe, you are my man,
forever. Mountains couldn’t keep us apart,” Zane winks, bowing. “Big sap,” Alex
blushes, punching Zane softly in the arm. “You love it, babe,” he
laughs.
They walked a little further before someone steps in
their path, a blade glinting in the streetlight above them. “Aren’t you two
just adorable,” the stranger snarls menacingly. He isn’t wearing a mask, but
wears dark shades. Zane instinctively pushes the younger boy behind him, taking
a defensive pose. “We have no money,
leave us alone.” The stranger steps
closer, ready to strike. “Give me the ring on his finger, then,” he snarls,
revealing a gun in his other hand. “No,” Alex whispers,
hiding behind Zane. “Babe, let him have it.
We can just buy you a new one, okay?” Zane feels the nod on the back of his
neck and then Alex tentatively reaches out, ring in hand, to the man. When Alex
is revealed under the street lamp, the man sees the antique pocket watch Alex’s
grandfather gave him before he passed away. “I want the fancy
watch, too,” the thief demands, ripping the ring from Alex’s hand. Alex reels back in horror,
covering the watch. “No, not happening,” he grunts. “Give me the damned
watch!” The guy aims the gun and growls “now.” “Look,” Zane butts in, “the watch is important to him.
You aren’t getting it.” He steps forward, hands up, closer to the enemy.
“Seriously man, take the damned ring and
just leave us alone.” He takes one step closer. Then he lunges, twisting the
thief’s wrist, which causes him to drop the gun. Zane kicks it away, towards
Alex, who picks it up carefully. Zane gets the enemy to the ground, tackling
him and holding his wrists to the ground. “Call the cops, baby; hurry.” Alex pulls out his phone, aiming the gun at the enemy.
But then the enemy rolls, landing Zane on his back, and he straddles him,
holding his knife to Zane’s throat. “Put down the phone and the gun, just let
me go, or he dies.” Alex doesn’t trust him,
so he steps closer, putting the weapon to the back of the enemy’s head, but he
drops the phone. “Let him go first.” The enemy twists, grabbing the gun from
Alex, which gives Zane the chance to make his move. He grabs the blade,
twisting it out of the enemy’s hand, and shoves him off. The enemy turns, gun in
hand, and aims it at Zane. “Hey, man, put the gun down,” Zane demands, putting
his hands in the air and moves, blocking Alex. “If you do this, you will never
forgive yourself. You’ll have another human’s blood on your hands.” Shaking his head, the enemy lowers his arm. It
seems as if Zane and Alex have won, but when Zane turns to check on his fiancé,
there is a sudden loud ‘Crack’;
the sound of the gun going off. The
enemy takes off running, ring and gun in hand. Alex debates on going after him,
but a groan by his side has him kneeling to his lover. “Z-Zane...Zane
are you hurt?” Alex steps hesitantly to Zane, who is kneeling with his head
bowed. Zane groans again, trying to speak, when reality hits Alex full force.
“Zane! Zane, hold on, I’ll call for help, okay?” Alex tugs off his hoodie and
holds it to Zane’s bleeding chest and his other hand shakes violently as he
dials 911. “Just hold on, okay. You’re okay. You’re gonna be okay, right? You can’t
leave me; not now damn it. Mountains can’t keep us apart, remember? Baby,
please, please, hold on,” Alex nearly sobs in relief when the dispatcher
answers. “We need help, my fiancé’s been shot.” He rattles off the information
quickly, eyes watching Zane as his breathing shallows. “This can’t happen. This
isn’t supposed to happen. We’re supposed to get married, adopt kids, grow fat
and old together; remember? You remember our deal?” “Gon’ be k, Alex...I’m
ok...love you, ‘m right here...” Zane assures Alex, placing a bloody hand to
his cheek. He attempts to wipe away the tears streaming down his fiancé’s face.
“’s okay...” The rest is a blur. Alex remembers the Ambulance’s
flashing lights, the police dragging him away from his love, the officers
drilling him for answers, and the doctors rushing to Zane’s side. ‘Just two days before we were
supposed to move in together; just one month before we were to marry; please,
please let him be okay...’
A few hours later, an elder man, the doctor, emerges from
the O.R with a somber expression. “Mrs. Helming, Mr. Jones, I have terrible
news...” © 2017 Jedi-Sith19Reviews
