Poetry Without Words

Poetry Without Words

A Poem by Robert Luna
"

A spoken word piece. I hope you enjoy

"

Being convinced the American Dream

Is nothing more than a byproduct of

someone else’s lies

I find

I’m terrified

Seeing how easily people can be deceived

Like sheep following leader

Watching our sharp edges being sacrificed

To stay within the appropriate dotted lines

defined by a fictional comfort of a P.C. world

But there’s never a proper response

Being bound by the inconsistencies of life

and there I am thinking

I’ll never be whole

Left alone

Feeling blind and lost

as fear takes a hold of my heart

Ripping me apart

little

by little

to the point I feel empty and incomplete

Looking for answers to all that’s plaguing me

I find myself

Shouting prayers that always end the same way

What is it you want from me

But in the middle of my frustration

a moment of clarity dawns

Realizing I am broken

but beautiful

Just the way I am meant to be

It’s taken me a life time of mistakes

To get to this place

where I love myself

Society says I should be ashamed of who I am

and all that I have done

But what do you do being born with the heart of a fighter

and never being  taught what to fight for

These are the lessons learned by the complication of living

Knowing childish thinking

is in fact what imprisoned me

Trying to live up to self loathing expectations

Allowing my morality to be replaced by fear

Wondering why did I let this happen to me

Wanting to take back all that was taken from me

and that I gave so mistakenly

Seeing now how my life is poetry without words

I embrace all the little parts of myself

The past, present, and that which lies ahead

in distances that has yet to be seen

All those defining moments that complete me

With that blissful clarity

I decide to live my dreams

Being free to be anything that I dream

Not limiting myself to someone else’s

Distorted perception of who I am suppose to be

So f**k the American Dream

I’m living for me

I SALUTE THIS POEM AND YOUR SPIRIT ROBERT.
I am sending this to my friends Urja and Wolffe and ANNA and Alice.

i really made me wonder and made me think really hard ...are you in this alone...nope...Even i am there with you with same confusion and same state of disillusionment as you were facing and i am sure if we don't find our way out, no one will.

So to the point! I can just imagine you reading this out loud to an audience and them clapping. Your words capture everyone, because we've all been there, listening to what other's think about us, making poor choices... but your ending is where you really picked up and said to hell with it.

I'm going to be me no matter what you say, get out of my way!!! I enjoyed the read. ks

Once again Robert you take such a deep look into what is wrong with our world today... so many people by into what they here instead of getting the facts and deciding for themselves, whether it be on the news, gossip from friends and strangers or even letting spiritual leaders interpret the bible for them...

Seeing now how my life is poetry without words
I embrace all the little parts of myself
The past, present, and that which lies ahead

love this verse for we should just live life from what we learned ourselves and embrace everything the future holds... Another spectacular rant.

'Broken but beautiful' catches my eye in this procalamation of sturdy individuality. You are who you are and proud of it. You live your life in your way, not to someone else's design. I admire this outlook. You see through things and you see yourself for what you are. All very truthful.

Wonderfully written piece. The whole poem is strong and passionate, you have some really wonderful lines, all in all a very solid piece. I like the tone of it. Controlled defiance is a tough place to stand, but you did it well. The message is simple and straight forward and its not one that many people listen to. There are those that would rather drowned in their own misery than go against the masses or popular thing to do. People are losing their individualism more and more every day because they are turn into carbon copies of one another.

Your writing, so often filled with self deprecation and insights into social problems takes an inward turn here to examine your own relation to society and reveals a dissatisfaction with the status quo but a determination to remain independant and forge ahead, all alone, if need be. But even though we may seem like just voices from cyberspace, each consonant and vowel is actually attached to a living, breathing human being...and human life; that is the greatest poetry of all, warts, bony knees and all.

Watching our sharp edges being sacrificed
To stay within the appropriate dotted lines

I enjoyed these lines here, Trying to stay within lines or dotted lines even is a very thin line, well written write.
