Land Of Poets

Land Of Poets

A Poem by Robert Luna
"

Just something that came to me after thinking about the idea of patriotism and exactly what that means to me.

"

In the land of the free

There is no rhyme,

no reason

Just a constant state of seeking

As they surround us with

drugs, guns, thugs and thieves,

a constant state of being deceived

Spouting propaganda,

"Be all you can be

and breathe easy"

Sweet words

Being spoken

Through these prison bars known as life

Some how they lose their meaning

Choking down the polluted air

I am forced to consume

watching as they draw another chalk line

One more young victim laid to rest

What a waste

My head too congested with thoughts

so I forgot to breathe

laying beaten and bleeding

But every scar tells a story

the words remain unspoken

provoking change

to Liberty and Democracy

a current state of Idiocracy

It seems it’s them always mocking me

Them mocking we, The enlighten

We who choose to be

FREE

We who speak out against the hypocrisy

We who walk in the land of poets

Pens in hand and words in your souls

On the ready to write about the evil

that plagues the human ego

Hand me the key

and set me free

Take off this blindfold so I can see

exactly who I am supposed to be

Lifting my pen in protest

Letting my voice be heard

to rattle the chains of oppression

As they question

my loyalty

But ask me

Ask me if I care

As I bare my fist

and grit my teeth

Picking myself up off this ground

and found

They don’t know the first thing

but you don’t know that

until they take the first swing

Soapbox Soliciting

in the name of free speech

But I don’t dare preach

Being marked as an enemy of the state

Freedom has its price

So go ahead, try the door

it doesn’t matter anymore

because you can sense what has been lost

you can sense what’s at stake

Here in the land of the free

There is no rhyme,

no reason

Just a constant state of seeking

Circumstances

and last chances

I’ve already said too much

but I tell something else

I love this country

I love this nation

and all of its population

So ask me

Ask me if I care

Man Robert you always manage to create vents that make us stand up and think one our feet, hmm thinking seems to be a foreign concept now with so many afraid they will be rididculed for there ideas... it always get me people who believe in freedom of speech until it is something they don't like... I say you only believe in freedom of speech if you can defend the rights of thing you don't care about.

This kicks some serious a*s in the right places Robert, all fired up and telling you to preach it brother.
"We the unwilling led by the unknowing are doing the impossible and we have done so much with so little for so long we are now qualified to do anything with nothing."

You just gave me a new goal as a poet. This makes me feel like starting a revolution, a new Renaissance. This is so inspiring. I can feel this... this tingling inside. I thank you for writing this powerful poem

Hey... this is my new favorite of yours... this is written so elegantly... all the misery said ..without anger.. but speaking to me..You are closer to the truth with this one.. powerful and gripping writing, this is creating a doubt about this highly disturbing reality. Make god that Palin won't make the president...not again republicans...

these are the biggest lines I've ever read--
every scar tells a story.

They seem right coming from you.

Those who are capable of speaking our minds are the administrations greatest fear. Us who can use our minds and express our thoughts and seek and destroy hypocrocies are the ones they hate. We point out these falacies not because we hate our countries but because we love it too much to see it fall victem to the evils of man. Well written, I am happy to live in the land of poets.

Deeply intriguing. You have touched upon something that I hold in high esteem. Not patriotism, for that can often be misconstrued and contorted/distorted to fit the public need/want. Freedom however is another matter. It is worth every word penned and every bloody nose and broken bone as well. We can not and must not give it up. Well done.
