Blue Skies and A Flower

Blue Skies and A Flower

A Poem by Robert Luna
"

This is a tribute to a great writer and wonderful friend. Mrs. Emily Burns. She is such a part of this place and her heart is felt by so many here. i just wanted to give her something back for her incredible friendship.

"

She reminds me that there’s time to change

Quoting Dickenson as she walks out into the rain

I'm out here counting blue skies with dark clouds
Trying to make sense out of life

When you're up between the sky line and city lights

there in warm sunshine
It's a long way down

Her words become instrumental

Traveling in beauty’s jet streams

and hitching a ride

Upon back of shooting stars

Letting the wind sweep you off your feet

Landing naked upon dirty streets

There in a place where metal meets words

Just wishing to travel back in time

Hiding her angel wings and tear stained eyes

Hearing another nations silent cries

She got a beautiful heart..,,unlike mine

Even as ugly as life has been

she still calls me friend

To the bitter end

You give back every day. Word for word. Thought for thought. Just knowing that you are out there somewhere gives me strength on cloudy days. I found your words on a sad day. I asked you to recommend some other words to me on a rainy night. That's as good a basis for friendship as any I've ever known.

Thank you for the tribute. It's a little overwhelming. I see myself one way, while some others see me as something a little different. I'll try and rise to the challenge.

This is very nice Robert. This sums it up for me:

Hiding her angel wings and tear stained eyes
Hearing another nations silent cries
She got a beautiful heart..,,unlike mine
Even as ugly as life has been
she still calls me friend
To the bitter end

I sometimes forgot how much this place means to people or how much the people on it mean to people, but with tributes like this I see the thread neatly sewn into one another. She has been a great help to me, always encouraging, always saying hello, always spreading her love. Bless you...

Emily has caught my heart in her gentle hands more than once and glued me back together. She's such a gentle and kind heart I don't even think she knows just how much she's meant to me as a person and as a writer. Thank you for such a beautiful tribute to this kind, beautiful soul. Emily has touched a lot of people's lives here and no one could have written a better tribute than this. Bravo, Robert!

Now this is half untrue.... If you didn't have a beautiful heart you would never take the time to acknowledge and then poetically celebrate someone else's. Emily is one cool chick but don't sell yourself short either. :)

This is a beautiful tribute, Robert! I agree with every word. Emily is amazing and so are you, my friend. This perfectly describes her work and the influence she has on us here at the cafe.

*She got a beautiful heart*

Amen.

Beautiful writing and a most appropriate tribute to our dear friend, Emily. I am doubly blessed cause I get to call both of you friend.

Maybe this isn't the proper moment to say it but oh hell why not?

I love the both of you and your right this place wouldn't be the same without her or you either.

Smiles ...

...This is lovely, and she is a lucky woman to have a friend as good as you. And vice versa from the sound of it. I did question one thing though, in the poem when you say "you" are you talking to the audience or to Emily? It sounded like you were talking to Emily, but if that's the case then you need to go back and stay with just one tense when talking about her. She is either a She or a You. And if you are talking to the audience then parts of it don't make sense.

But this was a beautiful tribute, something that even those who don't know her can appreciate. Congratulations.
