Blackbird's Song

Blackbird's Song

A Poem by Robert Luna
"

Something in between reality and a dream that place most fear to dwell alone. Hope you enjoy.

"
I woke in the middle of night
With a feeling I couldnt shake
35 years and still fighting this same fight
Tell myself everything will be alright
I step outside just to look at the night sky
Tripping over my own regrets
Seeing the stars perfectly aligned
A small glimpse of the inner working of gods mind

There perched in an old birch
Sat a Blackbird staring at the same sky as I
As she starts to sing
A song of unforgettable woe and beauty
I cried Blackbird sing me your song
Tell me where you been
and the things you have seen
Share your wisdom with this poor fool

The notes of her song become words to my soul
Hearing the distance thunder roar
The clarity of the sky darkens in a mystic haze
But there she sat and sang
Oh Blackbird please wont you sing for me
the rain starts to fall from heavens gates
I listen to this symphony meant for me
Blackbird sings to me her sweet lullaby

Falling to the ground in despair
The pain was just too much to bear
My heart laid heavily in my chest
As I now see why she cannot rest
The sorrow her eyes have seen
All comes flooding over me
I beg for her mercy,
please Blackbird release me

here the Blackbird sings her song of me
Sitting at the head of my grave
Waiting to take my soul
I look at the night sky for one last time
and ask Blackbird to sing for me
Her sweet lullaby
knowing now everything is truly right
She spreads her wings and takes flight

Great poem! The pictire goes well with it,well flowing, seemed to be a few minor spelling mistakes. You have a beautiful way of expressing what you feel...I could take it as you bearing your true love's pain,or it could just be a fantasy/dream....Anyways overall I really enjoyed it,I'm glad you let me know!

Oh wow Robert, I am speechless. This was brilliantly beautiful, so say the least. Sorry for a moment the words escaped me. I am just stunned and all I can think right now is WOW!

This has to be a new fav for me. I love it when you play with our emotions, taking the mind to places not really so far from ones real life.

35 years and still fighting this same fight
Tell myself everything will be alright
I step outside just to look at the night sky
Tripping over my own regrets

So you mean to tell me that things doesn't get better with time? Don't worry I am tend to believe that too.
Wait let me not go into that now.

Thank you for this amazing piece, I loved it!

This is an incredibly well done piece. It's like a song, Robert. Your descriptions are beautiful and I love the photo that you've used with it. Blackbirds have such a mysterious magic about them and they've always intrigued me. This is beautiful.

This certainly provokes a powerful feeling - I was led back to memories of night-time as a child, when I saw the light beneath my bedroom door switched off and I was left alone - that state where reality and people were all around yet I also new the only way to survive another day was to sleep and go into dream world alone. I don't recall there being a blackbird in my early life, however, I love the story you tell and can relate a lot.
Great work.

I take a lot from this mysterious and powerful write... mostly I see someone who questions there life and if they did all they could in fighting for what they believe in.

what a haunting poem
As I read it ; two things kept coming through to me.
One; that it is the blackbirds; Rooks, Crows, Ravens, and such that are given the power in several faiths to carry our souls across the veil from the red road of the living to the black road of the spirits. That these birds are the only ones who can cross the divide twixt the two.
The other is the olde Victorian poem regarding the crow/raven which calls them by number and what each brings. One crow for sorrow; two for joy and so on.
Your poem kept to both of these beliefs beautifully and hauntingly.

This is hauntingly beautiful...like another reviewer said it reminds me of a beatle's song "Blackbird singing in the dead of night..."
Really cool piece, Robert :)
