Art

Art

A Poem by Robert Luna

Baptized in fluorescent light
finding religion in the greeting card aisle

Who would have known hallmark had it right
Sleep walking just never dreaming

Scene from Night of the Living Dead
every song on the radio
is suddenly speaking to me

tongue tied and twisted
losing myself in the moment
Looking at myself in the mirror
there in the back of my brain

wondering whatever happened to me

not liking what or who I see
Coming to the realization
Art is imitation of life
but life imitates TV.
I finally pick up the pen
to write this theme song
that’s playing in my head
Eardrums bursting from the pressure
Feeling like a superhero high on life and caffeine

just addicted to an idea of a beautiful life
never wanting to leave this stage
so I drove my car so fast

that I smashed into heaven’s gate
and then I descended

it was a place I was never meant to be
As all the chemicals have become meaningless
I realize, I must have been dreaming

laying there naked for the world to see

screaming “look what you done to me”
then my words return feeling empty and hollow
knowing the truth is so hard to swallow

There I am left to face myself again
and the reality that awaits me

What an intriquing title for such a piece...art comes in many forms even the written word and you have certainly captured an essence of Art that is transcending here. I believe you go beyond that typical look at it - the nonchalant one where noone even notices what is there...thanks for that. Great job!

If you haven't already read this on the radio...then please do because I would love to hear you read it.

These first three lines just knocked me flat -

"Baptized in fluorescent light
finding religion in the greeting card aisle
Who would have known hallmark had it right "

cynical, funny and full of raw truth...a truly great write

I am in awe here!!! This is art in writing in its purest ...!!!

I bow down before your ability to cloth all these emotions, feelings, realities, truths, dreams and wants and fears into such meaningful words. All of us know how such moments feel like but I never saw them written down in that beautiful and true manner. AWESOME!

this has the feel of urgency...of needing to write it all down before it runs away. the references to hallmark have me thiking this has something to do with valentine's day, but i can't pinpoint just what!

"Feeling like a superhero high on life and caffeine
just addicted to an idea of a beautiful life "

this has a rat race serenity to it....i know that sounds like a contradiction in terms, but it is the best way i can describe the way it made me feel. Robert, this is uniquely wonderful poetry. Lydia

One word rock star...............stunning!
Such stunning imagary..............we are so mixed up with art weaved through media..........we struggle to
retain our unique identities...........this is so good a write.

so I drove my car so fast
that I smashed into heaven's gate
and then I descended
it was a place I was never meant to be
As all the chemicals have become meaningless
I realize, I must have been dreaming

You have really looked into you here.........trying to evaluate where you fit, where we all fit............
superb.

I came back. I knew I had to, I wasn't functioning at optimum levels the other day. Your words pull at me, elicit emotions and understandings on such a personal level. We are art. Art is us. Living, breathing, walking, talking, models for the words we write. We none of us sit in empty rooms waiting for inspiration. We get out. We do. We say. We are. And somewhere in the middle of the mess we find time to scribble down some words that come from the experience of it all. You understand that process better than any of us. You are your art. Your art is you. filiocht.

This work is alternately inspirational and a quick slap in the face. I mean that in the best sense ... if there can be. I exist in the border between reality and fantasy. I see the necessity for paying my bills and knowing what the government is planning for us, but all else does not touch me very much anymore... I see this plane as just one of many... existence comes and goes. This existence has never been fruitful... lots of trying in vain... so I just do... When I read a work like this, It reminds me of where my life has taken me. I am the only art I can ever create. My life is of my choosing. This life... and the ones to come. Bright blessings to you, dear one. Hallmark doesn't have the balls to publish what you give to others... Truth. There is no greater gift. Thank you.

Art AND life are how one perceives it...and how we interpret it is up to us....I didn't think there was anyone's song in this, but I'll take your word for it! I think this is bright and shining...very outside the box, which you know I dig....awesome job my friend :)
