Appreciation From A Walk Down A City Street

Appreciation From A Walk Down A City Street

A Poem by JBoone

I walk down the congested sidewalk

People chatting on cellphones

Chatting about work, bills, and bosses

Bumping haphazardly into other’s

Bikes zip by

Bobbing and weaving without care

Yelling to get out of their way

Cursing those around them

Cars zoom by too

No signal turning

Gunning yellow lights

Puffing out toxic fumes

I pause in the commotion

I take a deep breath and smile

I look to the sky and say,

Thank you

I live in a rural village in NSW Australia and did my utmost best to get here. I love space and quiet. Yet I do love a weekend away with friends in the city. I liked your poem it was in the moment and I also enjoyed your ending where you can see through it all and still be happy. :)

So many recklessly going nowhere, fast.
Happily, J, you still possess the instinct and insight to preserve your individuality.
Obviously, gratitude to God helps keep you straight--and safe.
Perceptive piece of work, poet!

Thank you. I appreaciate the kind words.
This is an amazing poem! I can imagine a big city like New York or LA. It really paints a magnificent picture! Overall lesson is to appreciate the beauty of the world, to just pause and give thanks for life.
