Appreciation From A Walk Down A City Street

Appreciation From A Walk Down A City Street

A Poem by JBoone

I walk down the congested sidewalk

People chatting on cellphones

Chatting about work, bills, and bosses

Bumping haphazardly into other’s

Bikes zip by

Bobbing and weaving without care

Yelling to get out of their way

Cursing those around them

Cars zoom by too

No signal turning

Gunning yellow lights

Puffing out toxic fumes

I pause in the commotion

I take a deep breath and smile

I look to the sky and say,

Thank you

I live in a rural village in NSW Australia and did my utmost best to get here. I love space and quiet. Yet I do love a weekend away with friends in the city. I liked your poem it was in the moment and I also enjoyed your ending where you can see through it all and still be happy. :)

Your message is very unexpected & original. Many people write about being thankful despite hardships, but you've taken this old axiom to an original level, showing the harsh intrusions of everyday life all around, but still holding a peaceful heart of gratitude thru it all. This is the poster child for "show, don't tell" . . . all the more vivid becuz of all the detailed & recognizable examples you use thru-out.

Welcome to the world of today. You poem reflects how our lives go on with being busy and self- importance. Within the scheme of things, we need to take time and thank our Lord for our existence. Your writing reflects this nicely. ~ Sonia

The world is so caught up in itself and other peoples business that we forget to appreciate. It's sad that we have even pushed our creator out of our lives and are focused on such unimportant things. Great reminder to stay humble and thankful.

I enjoy walks myself and this piece gives insight to be appreciative of your surroundings as you walk by. Great work!

This truly a lovely poem, I like the mood in it and the images you created. Though one small note; I felt that haphazardly read a tiny bit off, sort of clumsy in comparison to the overall good flow. Other than that it read very nice.

Thank you.
I always do that
I guess this fast paced life
left little for the average man to enjoy
but praise every second

Thank you so much.
I see it all the time. They get so lost in their own world and they become unaware of who or what's around them much to their own detriment...and sometimes danger. To pause in the middle of it and know you're not a part of it makes you lucky...and sensible.
