"Turkey Vultures"A Poem by Jeanne BroomeOn a trip to northern Wisconsin...I got up early to watch natures creatures going about their morning chores. I was inspired while lying in the grass looking at the sky, to write this poem. It was just a on the spot observation. I had to write it down."Turkey Vultures"
At Little Hills Lake some years ago While feeling summers breezes blow, Dreaming of past years up there And soaking up the atmosphere, I...in repose through sunshine bright Above the trees...the strangest sight, Ten birds so large and ugly flew They carouseled...as if they knew, It was amazing for me to see Them circle round...above the trees. Searching earth from way up high For bits of food...minute in size, Not even hidden in the haze When kept within their steady gaze, I lie in wonder and in awe I marveled at the grace I saw, Oh...ugly bird high in the sky I'm baffled at the reason why, A bird as ugly as can be Could be so...beautiful to me.
