The Orange

The Orange

A Poem by JDA

The Orange

As I bit into my orange at

breakfast, an image

of the girl selling oranges

by the roadside

in my South African village

flooded into memory.

An orange, peeled and

sectioned, becomes

a planet divided,

yet the fruit’s

succulence unites

us in our common yearning

for life’s sweetness.
