In 1917, Nick Carraway was sent to the Great War to fulfill his military services. Nick had no experience whatsoever to go into the battlefield, Nick feared for his life and all he could think of is the person he left behind, like Daisy and other family members. One day, during the Great War, Nick was severely injured he had suffered severe brain damage, surprisingly he survived the shot to the head. However, Nick in his slow recovery started to see things. After suffering from brain damage and paranoia issues he starts having illusions. He see's one man in front of his eyes, one man who Nick would subconsciously create in his mind as an inspiration of what Nick truly wants to be, a man called Jay Gatsby. Gatsby is a rich individual who possess a lot of things such as, his Manson and other values such as his car. At first Nick was inspired by Gatsby's valuables and his social status, however with all the tragic event such as the fight with Tom, Daisy and Gatsby and not to mention, the car accident which was the cause of Mertle's death, Nick was becoming more confused and starts becoming aware of what is happening to him. Nick realizes that the current world he is in is not real and it represents his subconscious thoughts. Everyone is real except Gatsby. However, they each have reasons for being there. Gatsby represents Inspiration, Greed, possession and narcissism, he represents the self image of what Nick always wanted to be,instead of being forced into the war with barely any income whatsoever. Daisy represents Nick's sexual desires and beauty. she is dressed as a white elegant woman who looks like a fairy of vanity, Tom represents judgement and frustration, Nick Is massively judgemental and he is frustrated that no matter how much effort he puts, he isn't rich and successful like a lot of male individuals at that time. Jordan represents, Nick's failures in relationships. Nick doesn't know what love truly is, and the mood changes often between Him and Jordan, Nick isn't serious enough for commitment. Wilson represents, grief and regret, grief and regret over failures is the reason why Nick is lacking self confidence and to why he is barely able to move on. The fight between Gatsby and Tom represents truth, Gatsby being dishonest shows that bad things will happen, such as losing Daisy for making up lies about his social status. The car accident represents fate and reality. If you make bad decisions such as crossing the road when a vehicle is passing by, bad things will happen and you will see the reality of it. Finally, Gatsby's death represents awakening. In order for Nick to wake up from illusion, Gastby has to die, the gun shot from Wilson was a reminder of what happen to him, his subconscious tells him to give up his attitude for greed, his possessive personality and narcissism. Nick wakes up and he realizes that it is never too late to change and that he has been given a second chance.
