Friendly Love

A Poem by simpleromantic

At this time of the day.
Who would read to this predictable poem?
Please don’t fall asleep first.
Listen and feel my heart.

Before my words get to you, they freeze.
Because your expression is so cold.
Because your way of speech is so dry.
My heart had withered before I opened up.

My heart desires to, but I fear to touch it.
Your heart is too sharp.
Your answer is so obvious.
I just nodded and laughed it off.

I wanted to be your “lucky one”.
But I know what I need to do.
I need to give it all up and hold it in.
It’s impossible liking someone who only sees you as a friend.

Do I make you that uncomfortable?
Am I the bad one?
Right now, we’re like the clock hands at 12:30.
Our backs turned against each other looking at different places.

I like you this much.
I want you this much.
But I can’t do anything, I can only look.
Because I’m your friend.
