An ode to coffeeA Poem by JazzI wrote this for my creative writing seminar at university.O calming, caffeine-filled coffee You have slain the beasts named Tired and Stroppy
You comfort poor souls who are cursing and yawning As they hurry to work in the early morning
Against drowsiness how bravely you fight For students working late into the night Aiming for that deadline with all their might
But are you truly the savior of the morning? Some say “Coffee is bitter and boring!”
“Confine it to those dull over-priced cafes That sell their mochas and milky lattes.”
“Give us a pot of top-notch breakfast tea That is so cheap it might as well be free Yet still refreshing to the highest degree.”
In Starbucks you have many a name So many in fact it drives people insane As they try to pronounce them in frustrated vain!
Still, the early riser would be lost without you And this is a well-known fact denied by few
With your warm, mellow taste and lively kick You rescue many from the jaws of Lethargic
For a single sip many would travel far: A god, a savior " both these things you are.
