They Stand

They Stand

A Poem by Jasmine

The waves crash against the sharpened fangs of the rocks below her,
her eyes are cast far over the shore, held with certainty that he will come.
The wind weaves its silken fingers through her hair,
as the rain stings against her skin, and yet she stands.

The ocean bekons her, drawing her to its salten depths,
sirens lulling her by name, gently guiding her through her fears.
Time holds its breath as she shifts, the waves boom with vengeful bliss,
cracks of light pierce the sky around her, and yet she stands.

Her dreams are filled with desire, of longing, of need,
she waits to hear him call her name on the wind,
knowing that he will come to her, hold her, love her,
and never let go, so she stands.

He watches the embers creep through the air,
dreading the rain's beating drums on his door.
Patiently he waits, longing to hold her, love her,
the pain of his salten tears sting his cheeks as he stands.

The flames call his name, drifting his mind from his love,
bekoning his desires, seducing him with its heat.
Time rests silently, as he stares out at the blackened sky,
his fear pounding on him, freezing him as he stands.

The sky lightens as cracks of light shatter the blackness,
he waits, his breath stolen, as his hand reaches out,
grasping the door as he hesitates, trembling,
his mind screaming at him to stop, so he stands.

Her tears flow in the rain as her heart crumbles,
her hope scattered, lost in the waves below.
She cries his name, her voice sliding across the screaming roar of the sea,
she falls, her breath lost to the sirens seduction, the waves wrapping around her.

He hears the footsteps of his fear crashing behind him,
he cries out to his love, as the rain engulfs him, his feet gliding across the ground.
His heart filled with hope, his mind filled with fear he pushes on, climbing the slope.
The wind flows her voice, his name to his ears, as he looks up, her white dress fluttering in the wind.

His eyes darken, as he watches her body claimed by the waves,
his soul screaming, his heart torn, as the light cracks once more.
The flame entwins around him, collapsing him on the ground,
as the skies answer with one final round, a blast set to warn the urgency of love.

Wow. This was amazing. There's a very strong sense of urgency and time throughout the whole piece. The way you described what was going on and what the two people were feeling was wonderful. I just love the way you wrote the entire piece. It's just plain beautiful. Astounding. Keep up the great work!
