Misleading Love

Misleading Love

A Poem by Jazmyne Rodriguez

Misleading Love

I was hesitant at first

He promised me the world and more.

I had no idea what was in store.

Each day I spent with him, I fell for him more and more.

“I was broken hearted several times in the past”

“But with you, I think it could last.”

“Before things get too deep

“I have questions to ask.”

“Are you thoughtful and kind?”

“Will you care what’s on my mind?”

“Yes I am thoughtful and kind.”

“I promise to always care what is on your mind!”

“I always settled for second best”

“I was always better than the rest.”

“Now I want to be someone’s best…. Your best!”

“I want to feel special”

“Be your one and only”

“My love with me by your side, I promise you will never ever feel lonely.”

“Let’s proceed to date…. with caution!”

“I believe you are the one…. This is FATE!”

We grew madly in love as time went on

I expressed my love for him to my friends….

“WHAT?? Are you crazy?! This is happening WAY TOO FAST!”

“This time I know it is different.  I know it will never end.”

“DON’T BE DELUSIONAL!”

More time passed, and he started to change.

The dates were less and less.

The calls remained the same.

“Why are you being distant?”

“Listen, I couldn’t resist you and the passion I felt”

“With every smile and sweet embrace you made me melt.”

“There is one confession”

“I am so sorry to say”

“There is someone in my life”

“She is my wife.”

Tears filled up my eyes.

I just wanted to die….

“Please don’t cry, give me time.  I will break the ties.”

“I love you so”

“Ugh I think I’m going to be sick.  I have to GO”

“Please, please don’t go! You are exactly what I need”

“I promise to mend your broken heart.”

“You broke my heart! This love HAS to END!!”

Our relationship was like a Taylor Swift love song

But I didn’t realize things would go so wrong!

I had the Cinderella dream to live like there’s no midnight

Only problem was, I couldn’t get love right!

Love is a journey, and it’s been

             a long

                      bumpy

                                road.
