Bitter, Sweet RosesA Poem by Jazmine DevineA poem with a special twist...They may be pretty or even sweet. They smell great like a divine treat. With all different colors, you’ll fall in love. They’ll smile back at you, graceful like doves. They may be sharp with their thorns. Set them by the grave, to show your mourn. They’ll distract you. You’ll slowly lose your sense. Everything crowds you. Even air become dense. They sing on windy days; a beautiful sound. While walking by, they’re easily found. They might look domestic, but they’ll set you free. With a single touch, even hope starts to be. When it rains, they’ll save the drops. Looks aren’t everything. They just open their tops. With their small centers, they’ll take you away. You won’t remember any of your days. They’re any girls dream, to have them picked in a vase. They hold them gently, since it’s as pretty as their face. The bees and birds like them, but don’t give them your trust. You wish you could, keeping your lust. At night they close, holding your secrets and dreams. Thinking about your wishes, you wonder their means. They change and tell your secrets. They’ll let everyone know. Now you may tell, these bitter, sweet roses to go.
