Some Scars Never Heal

Some Scars Never Heal

A Poem by Jay Levon

The little boy watched his mother
as she drank vodka from a papercup,
and as she vomited into the papercup,
and as she drank it again.

The little boy watches me in the mirror.
His bottom lip quivers as his eyes
beg for answers. "Get over it kid,"
I tell him.  "Some scars never heal."

The words are direct and honest. Some scar become a permanent part on the body and soul. Thank you for the excellent poem.

Wow. Very vulnerable and striking in the realism you portrayed. I can feel the sadness and the fear as you watched your mother out of control. I hope she has gotten the help she needed. You are right, the scars will always be there, but in time, the pain shall diminish. I was married to an alchoholic; he passed out on the couch on my daughter's 5th birthday when we were supposed to go out to dinner to celebrate with his mother, who drove 2 hours to go with us...I never forgot the embarrassment and hurt, but I let the pain go.
