I have a gig tonight

I have a gig tonight

A Poem by Jay Levon

I have a gig tonight; guitars are tuned,
harmonicas cleaned and ready, the ukulele
has new black strings, set list is vague but written.
Should I try a couple new songs for the coffee crowd?

I wish she was here to watch with pride
(and hopefully lust, or at least amusement),
but she won't be. I no longer hold her heart.
Still, I scan the small crowd with the futile hope,
that my dark haired muse hasn't left me,
to die on this stage alone.
