Dead of the Night

Dead of the Night

A Poem by Jay Levon
"

This is a song I wrote awhile back, all minor keys and echo.

"
I have this graveyard memory
where there's death on the breeze
and the noose is still swinging
from the old hanging tree
I have a bible in my pocket
there's a skull around my neck
one is to help me to remember
one is to help me to forget
That all sin will surface in time
in the dead of the night

There are secrets I've forgotten
about the shotgun blues
and how the eyes are the windows
to the soul of all abuse
I hear a slow dirge playing
sad notes in a minor key
Did the tears on the piano
once belong to me
There is nowhere left to hide
in the dead of the night

Am I sure I ever knew me at all?

I like the rhythm of this a lot. The ending is a great cliffhanger
