Infected

Infected

A Poem by JayceeC
"

Unwell

"

What is this being inside me,

Hijacking my emotions

Creating chaos from serenity?

Anger and madness

Wretch my soul,

Slowly,

Painfully-

Gorging on internal consumption

Until all that's left

Is a shell.

Hollow yet serene

in visage

as it gazes uncomprehendingly

At the world around.

Does no one suspect

That some pathogen

Has usurped control?

Its mephistophelean will

Shunning altruistic action;

Injecting nerve-wracking venom;

Paralyzing motivation;

Festering.

Yet, a microcosm of hope endures

Frantically searching

The ephemeris

Looking toward the heavens.

Perhaps, they will offer

A chrism;

Healing this wounded spirit;

Giving back my life.

good and bad......facets of the same coin.......so is god and evil........if god resides within us......so does evil.......
its us who is responsible for who takes over..........and even when we feel like the evil has eaten away everything leaving just a shell of us........i am sure we can still find god within......and help him save us.......
amazing poem!!!

Even though we have been granted free will, the grasp of despair or an unwell mind can hinder our healing search. I like how you build the movement of mental duress from a questioning stage, through the decrease in motivation and energy (the by-products of mental anguish) to that hopefulness that some of us are able to muster before it is too late. As I read this I thought of an old friend of the family who passed away just a few months ago. He slowly fell victim to dementia and in the end spent his days "riding bicycles and watching ice bergs drift in his home town' while sitting in a wheel chair at a home in a prairie province, miles from home. A well-written piece that reminds us to have faith in God when we have lost it in ourselves.

This was such a joy to read!
This takes me way back. I was in tenth grade around '04 and was indeed listening to matchbox twenty.
It brought back old memories that I had forgotten... =D
