Postmortem

Postmortem

A Poem by Jayanthi Manoj

Burning, Extinguishing

Burning, Extinguishing

 It’s paining…

I can’t cry

none to empathize

nor sympathize

I can’t scream

it’s obscene

a woman must not commit that offence

I can’t retaliate

“you are to oblige!”

that is the commandment

I can’t defend

it’s an onus

bear the cross “woman”

But I can die

cease to live

exist as a corpse

Kill  me alive

Burn me alive

Postmortem alive

I will not cry

I will not scream

I will not retaliate nor defend

I am dead long ago.
