Sun-Drenched and Air-brushedA Poem by JayJayBlueAbout how our fears and lack of confidence causes us to edit our lives via social media
I've built myself a castle
Surrounded by words and fire-walled fences Pictures drenched in sunlight Even as the air turns cold I geared my personality towards vague philosophy And they'll call me beautiful and visionary I'll encase myself in confidence And denounce the malicious as simply jealous Writer of adolescent proverbs But we don't all get what we deserve I'll unveil sun-drenched, airbrushed perfection Misplaced vanity spreads like an infection Communicate with me through false imagery Message something meaningless Disguised as poetry And I'm running out of words to say I'll steal from saints and sinners Words never meant for the mundane All of our media, makes us scared of reality We've edited ourselves out of existence All fears buried and changed, draining our sanity Everybody's looking, but we refuse to listen
