And I'm Falling Away

And I'm Falling Away

A Poem by JayJayBlue
"

About developing a sense of wanderlust and wanting to reject your old life

"
Look at the lights glimmer in the distance
I'm worried about what I've left behind
But I'm smiling for what is yet to come

The steady hum of the wheels
On stretching roads and highways
I'll reject every call for an answer
Why should I ever look back?

Not gregarious in the slightest
I don't need a witches' coven
No guardian angel for a false hope
Or the touch of a forgotten lover

I'm too old to consider staying
But naive enough to believe in the change
Phone batteries about to die
But I don't need any of my old friends

And in the twilight of the town
I've started the car
I refuse to leave a message
I need to cut all the threads

Not gregarious in the slightest
I don't need a witches' coven
No guardian angel for a false hope
Or the touch of a forgotten lover

One of the things I say often is: "God put your eyes facing in the same direction as your feet for a reason; to keep you moving forward. He put them above a neck that turns so you can see where you've been and remember. And he put them on your head atop your neck to see out and ahead; not to keep looking down."

Your poem is that same advice. It is the journey and recognizing that, sometimes, we just have to shake the dust of the past off and leave it behind.

IDK what you'd say there, but I do feel the first stanza needs a fourth line not to break up the meter of your prose.
