The Heart's TyrantA Poem by JayJayBlueA critique on how love songs try to enforce the idea of how we should love someone regardless of their flaws, even if those flaws are too great to shrug off
You turned the tap on
And every romantic cliché started pouring out Talk of muses and a shining light But the world is shaking it's head in doubt Love is everything But there's no power in it for me Love is nothing Like the movies say it should be Why should my lover be an angel When they're as corrupt as any monster There's no such thing as a saviour To be in love is to obey the tyrant You washed away the tears Knowing that we've just repeated the cycle Idiocy reigns as a king now There's no way this is all worthwhile Daydreams of perfect partners All false and fatally flawed There's nothing perfect about imperfection Love is the poison you can't ignore Why should my lover be an angel When they're as corrupt as any monster There's no such thing as a saviour To be in love is to obey the tyrant © 2014 JayJayBlue |
