Sweeping Away The GhostsA Poem by JayJayBlueTrying to escape from the associated pains of where you live, but finding that the memories will never leave youTurning away from you I know we're bitter and cynical A fair reflection of the world I left you and caught the bus I went on north to some place I didn't know Caught on the wind, taking my heart That long since turned to dust The sunlight cast upon my sunken face But all of my love is burning out I don't belong to anyone, especially you But you insist on chaining me to your embrace I can feel love, but to be in love is to surrender And I travel to leave behind my sense of romance To fall in love is to make a mistake And give yourself up to chance Further and further I'm running from home I don't think I can ever return But every city, every motorway is the same I'm running, I believe, in a thousand mile circle I'm escaping onto some nameless coast Maybe I'll just lay in the sands And let the ocean, sweep away my ghosts I stare from out my empty home At the view beyond and I suppress a sigh The tides sweeping onto the shore And the memories are rolling in I know I've gotta go I know I'm being called home Riding past rolling hills and sun-kissed fields Maybe she'll bring out the banners for my arrival Maybe all of the wounds and scars have healed Maybe one day she'll bury the past And move well on Maybe she'll head north towards the coast And wait for the heavy tide To sweep away the ghosts
