ReunionA Poem by JayJayBlueAbout how seeing someone you used to have strong feelings for a long time ago can make you feel emotions you didn't expect, detachment, confusion, sometimes contempt
So many years come and flown on
Backwards, sliding into the past And we're here again Staring into each others eyes Our nervous postures returning To wretched bodies ravaged by time All of the echoes of memory Booming and fading in my puzzled mind Struggling to placate my old longings We found ourselves designed by fate To meet here stuck in memory Romance drawn from the heartbeat of this place All reunions follow a similar line Where everybody's surprised How quickly the conversation runs dry A quick feeling of elation And the summer warmth within Ebbs to an autumn warning The gulf between us opening wide And time gives less than it'll take Ever downwards the night will slide Stuttering and mumbling in speech The pleasantries exchanged Now we're in limbo The heart's fire cooling now And how we're surprised All our words have ran out All reunions follow a similar line Where everybody's surprised How quickly the conversation runs dry Silence washing over, uncomfortable And we squirm under the truthful light Absence doesn't make the heart grow fonder But more detached
