When You See a Stranger

When You See a Stranger

A bit of silliness for the kids. Prosody is a bit off and there are inconsistencies stanza-to-stanza, but luckily, kids don't notice

When You See a Stranger

A question for kids

You see a stranger on the street

Where would you go, if you wore his feet?

Is he kind to his children? Is he nice to his wife?

Or is his day troubled…and filled with strife?

With what kind of treat does he end his meal?

Is it ice cream and pie, or crackers with eel?

Is reddish purple his favorite hue?

Or greenish red, all mixed with blue?

Does he drive a car or row a boat?

Fly an eagle…or ride a goat?

How does he get where he hopes to be?

Perhaps he swings from tree-to-tree?

Is his family nice or zombie-esque?

Do they call to talk or only text?

Do they read a book or do they dance?

When danger calls do they take a chance?

But, asking that, a thought occurs.

Would they like your world?

Would you like theirs?

Such simplicity and depth. Love the tone of innocence. It's never easy putting yourself in someone else's shoes, but leaving it to the child to question is marvelous.

I'm no critic but I love that this piece is written to invoke thought outside of our own selves

Wow so I’m not the only one that goes here, I constantly ask questions as I people watch, you can almost imagine their life by the way they look, walk, the way they speak, undoubtedly I’m usually wrong cuz my imagination goes far and beyond the average of people but who knows. I really enjoyed this write, thank you

Children shouldn't be raised to fear strangers as much as they should fear the belligerence of indifference to making real human connections.

The form and content here is pretty darn perfect.

Easy and pleasing to read. Lots of questions that I wonder about pass-er by-ers. Good job!

This poems is one of the few that I enjoy. It really makes the stranger into a person, not just a random passerby.

Simple rhymes and simple a simple pace it is perfect for a child- artless art. I disagree with your statement that kids don't notice; kids don't miss a thing.

This poem was a delight to read and took me back to my childhood and the reading of nursery rhymes in kindergarten. It may appear simplistic but has such a deep meaning to it. Much like the art of Dr. Seuss. Thank you for sharing this exhilarating poem.
