God's Children

God's Children

A Story by JayG
"

This will make some smile and some want to murder me. But suppose it is possible...

"

Recently, I had a thought that may have world-shaking implications, and change the way we look at genetics, and genetic manipulation, forever.

For no reason in particular, I began to think about Christian dogma, and the concept that God gave his only son to the world, a child conceived within a human womb, with a bit of human and some divine aspects in his DNA that would allow the child to grow up with an innate sense of right and wrong, plus abilities we would attribute only to a divine being, like being able to revive the dead, to change water to wine, and to walk on water.

The Bible clearly identifies God as male, and says that the child was his son, not just someone he created, like Adam and Eve, so the implication is quite clear, that God, the one in who’s image mankind was created, had some pretty special DNA to contribute, even were that contribution not made in the usual way.

Interestingly, the abilities of the human/divine hybrid didn’t manifest immediately, but required the attainment of full maturity for the more magical aspects to be observed, "though from childhood he was said to be pious and admirable.

My first thought was that God sacrificing his only child wasn’t the great thing it had been made out to be, because, after all, being God he could cause another, or a million children of equal capabilities to be born. The “only child” thing, therefore, was personal choice, and obviously must serve some purpose other than simply sacrifice. What did hit me as unique was that it was all accomplished through genetics.

God took one of Mary’s eggs, and either cloned it, while at the same time, changing the genetic coding so as to produce that magical child, or fertilized that egg with chromosomes of divine origin. Either way, in doing so he changed the history of the world. But of more importance: he left mankind a critical clue that is only now apparent, because now, we have not only the technology to clone, we can change DNA. And that means that with care, diligence, and research, it is entirely possible to recreate that miracle. It is within our grasp to have every single woman on the face of the planet give birth to offspring who can truly be called a child of God, and who will innately know right from wrong.

Think about the result of that fact, alone. No more wars. No more strife. “Turn the other cheek” will be the rule, without it even having to be taught. And the ability to feed the multitude with only a bit of food will conquer hunger. And that doesn’t touch the effect of being able to raise the dead, and survive a shipwreck by simply walking to shore, "or calming the storm with an act of will.

Assuming that the mutation breeds true, the cloning and genetic manipulation will need be only a one-time thing, bringing peace and plenty to the planet in one single generation.

Any woman would be overjoyed to bear such a child. Right? And what man would not be honored to be raising God’s child?

Once this amazing opportunity is pointed out to the faithful, I am utterly confident that Christianity, as a whole, will support the necessary research, and help usher in the era of endless perfection.

Is that cool, or what?

certainly an interesting idea.. but it pre-supposes a divine intent.. the last time I checked there was a definite lack of divinity in the human condition.. like so many other attempts to "play God" there is a lot of room for Satan's finger to stir the pot.. "there is no limit to the evil that man can do" we have a lot of work to do before we are ready for such lofty pursuits..

Here in light of a review you gave me on my recent story. Thanks for the review, I'm happy to return the favor. I really like the concepts you propose, being a Christian myself. I would assume though that people born in divinity wouldn't all have the same power. Perhaps some would use it for nefarious purposes

Have you talked to God about suppling the other half of what is needed for your cloning process to work? While your reasoning is sound on the human side, it won't bring us everlasting peace. Turning the other cheek is saying that someone has hit someone. For true peace we would have to go to Jesus's best solution, "Do unto other's that which you would have them do unto you." therefore eliminating the aggressors. If everyone in the world could follow this rule then humans wouldn't need a clone. --- As far as your story, it is well written and short like I like stories. Thanks for the read.

gods have been having sex with virgins way before Jesus even entered the picture, but if anyone can enter an age of peace and love via a virgin, do it now! (though history/religious wars kinda negates that fact)

How could you call it divine? It would be a child of science and human idealism. Who decides the ideal? God already created life in it's various forms and never gave any indication that it should be changed to suit human preference.

Besides all that, was Christ truly peaceful? There are many forms of Christ. There is biblical Christ as well as the mythical Christ which is more of an archetype and a combination of many ideas. The belief that Christ was an all-forgiving, peaceful, pacifistic and all-around good guy is generally not supported by any serious examination of the bible. As far as I can tell, Christ preached a more opportunistic violence, remaining peaceful when in the presence of roman soldiers, while encouraging his followers to arm themselves when going door to door preaching his philosophy.

So I'm not really sure what to say about this. I guess it's not meant to be taken seriously. I'm kind of excited to see what science can offer humanity. Maybe it will be amazing or maybe it will be horrifying beyond our wildest nightmares. Who knows? God knows, I guess.

I am sorry for not commenting on the language. I would like to oppose the idea.
'Artificial' means making decisions. What one sees as a god and salvation, others could sense as a scourge and disaster.
Christianity has destroyed plenty of possible ways for men other than its own dogma. It killed personality-based learning and introduced that book-based education which slowly leads to rejecting the role of a teacher and meaningful intellectual succession. Thus bureaucracy of mind is being established.
Which, in its turn, leads to formal decisions like making it all clean, narrow and pre-decised, putting it all into DNA and solving the problem once and for all - at least from somebody's point of view.
Who said that 'Knowledge should not be given, it should be suffered?' That also goes for the sense of right and wrong.
Please, don't get me wrong, I'm not denying Christian cultural and intellectual achievements, but apart from them there always has been dictatorship.

I think the style of this is like an old black and white movie where the main character (a detective) is delivering a monologue of his thoughts. With that in mind ... And without getting into the controversy of the content ... I like the way that the 'detective' analytically dissects and discusses a novel topic with cold hard logic. This might not be at all what was intended, but is what the words evoked for me and for that I liked it
