Butterfly

Butterfly

A Chapter by J. Rene Young

Shimmering daylight seeps through the silver clouds.
So many people swimming through the tainted air around me.
It's like a burning sensation ripping into my blue corpse.

Then bursting forth is that matching butterfly,
An essence whose blooming smile could raise the dead,
And such was I.

Alive, my heart sprung forward from my chest.
Plunging me into the sunlight, it led me closer.
Within arms' reach the fluttering thing stood.
Like a sapphire mirage, it bitterly laughed at me.
It beckoned my failing heart toward it, away from decay.

But the sunlight sears my rotting flesh
And I return to the darkness once more.
