Our pronouns divide us

Our pronouns divide us

A Poem by Someday Shine

I was never proud of you
Thought I had a different view

I couldn't walk in the shoes
Of someone that looked like you

They get to call you hero
For what you went through

I see my reflection
Finding shame by association

Not they, not you
It's we, it's me

The same sickness that chained
Lives on thinking this way

We're not on any side of history
Picking teams got us this way

Any and every single story
We can live vicariously

That's what makes us being
You see what I see

I'm confident it's time that we
Should share collectively

The joy, the pain
The pride, the shame

Every emotion of our past
If we're to realize at last

It was never about you
It's still not about me

Every written line is about us
It's us, it's us, it was and is about us
