Parents acceptance about college career

Parents acceptance about college career

A Poem by Jay Writesgood
"

a poem about a personal experience

"

Yesterday I told my parents about my career decision

About my lifes ambition.

It was too late though ive had decided about something else before

something I'm good at but i love something more

therefor

Game Design was my choice

Anger and frustration was the only voice

I knew that my desicion was not going to bring positive outcome

and that understanding was not going to be easy on an early stage

and I love you is not a heard prhase

but hey what can i say i would get pissed if i was them

I would just like to hear them say

Son we are proud of you

and whatever you do in life

we will pray

for your future fame...

I'm sure they're threatened by technology, or better yet any change, which seems the case with most parents in regards to the fruit of their loins making personal decisions. It's hard for parents to understand (to paraphrase Will Smith... I know, quite lame), especially in these technological times. Soon enough maybe they'll see that the field of work in which you have chosen belongs to a multi-million dollar industry and isn't all that crazy an idea for a career.

If this poem were written any other way it would seem a little too post high school cry baby for me, but I'm not going to label it that way, because it is written well. Whether we all want to admit it or not, we've all encountered this same situation. Sure, it was a cliche for me and you and everyone, but it still sucks when your parents don't approve. I guess the best thing to say for someone challenged with this is that the proof is in the pudding. Show them why it is the right choice for you.

If they still don't approve... Well f**k it. Once you design Halo 8 some time in the near future, you'll have enough money to buy some other parents love.

Parents don't understand sometimes, I guess that's too bad though. Do what you want and i doubt they will stop loving you, even if they are angry. I like this poem, it's got a good message.
