O Captain IncomingA Poem by Angry_JasperineAnother political poem, a spin off of Walt Whitman's classic, "O Captain my Captain" for Abraham Lincoln after his death and the civil war. I would suggest you read that one before or after you read!
Captain Incoming
(For you, the new POTUS.) So I'm sitting And thinking About this ship that's changing course How you Captain Take the wheel and steer us Towards an immense force An iceberg That shall only drown Certain passengers O captain, my captain I can see you enjoy The position of power in which Pen and paper changes lives As the passengers press to watch you With excitement And also fear O captain, my captain The flag is still flung But now my flag is flown, too The bugle still trills, indeed it does But now it does so In protest Of you. The crowds chanting Anger and hurting Bleeding onto a sandy shore You demean my friends Insult my family Inject me with fear. Who are you At your core? O captain, my captain The prize you sought is won But as long as you spit venom words at Your crew Your people My work Our work Will never be done. © 2017 Angry_JasperineAuthor's Note
