Mother

Mother

A Poem by Bashjasper

You gave me more than I ever needed
Craving to satisfy me against all odds
Accepting my flaws with optimism
Tolerating my extravagance with pains
Suffering in silence for my crimes
Seeking to shield me from the troubles of life
Sold her pride for my sustenance

But ignorance became my friend
Stealing into my mind with aplomb
Till naivety steels in my attire
My ambition filled with illusion

But there she is, suffering in negligence
For despite her obvious versatility
Her consent matters not
“Control is brevity”, I thought

Alas, consequences abound
Seeking to check my excesses
Its offense stronger than expected
Till I lost all I ever had
But behold, she is the Lord
And I thought, if only I treated her with care
Oh “Mother”! I took from you what I couldn’t give
