formless / belonging

formless / belonging

A Poem by J

        formless belonging

                       the arterial roots of wind
                                 crossing our faces

    prisming light
    refracted into

                               action and response
                        cause and circumvention

            disease
                               and a dilemma over

                               the touch of elbows
             digging

     into the sand

Nice to see you back, J. You demonstrate a lovely economy of words with this piece. The title caught my attention- I also have a poem I wrote called "formless." The sense I get from your words is a wavering between distance and connection; thoughts mulled over while at the beach, maybe; maybe not. The sense of duty that pushes us to action when we physically feel connected.

Nice poem, short but potent.

And the tide swathes past,
In its wake the sand morphs back
Into its bland & shapeless 'form,'
Flat chested & non-committal :-)
