Zarathustra

Zarathustra

A Poem by Jason van Dongen

Zarathustra indulges ev'ry whim,
And, tossed by a tempest of his making,
Explores - while all of his wit forsaking -
The full complexities that make him, him.

"Where lies the courage in moderation?"
He sneers insanely, as he watches fools
Who set their eyes on high, abiding rules,
"In strength and power - therein lies salvation."

"Between the ape and overman lies man,
Who does not know the power of his will,
And who will never, ever, know until,
He leaves the notion that there is a plan."

So does the prophet scream as death encroaches,
Until at last the madness shuts his jaw.
And his musings, as sacrosanct as law,
Echo as eternity approaches.

Hush, madman, you will sleep a good long night,
Before - as I believe it - you will bring,
The works that you have wrought before the King.
Hush, madman, you will sleep a good long night.
