A Toast to the FallenA Poem by Jason van DongenHere in Australia, those who have fallen in the name of freedom are remembered on April 25. I wrote this to commemorate the day.
From the hardy heights of the Blue Mountains,
To where the land slopes into sea, We, the people of a sun-blessed country, Will toast those few who made us free. We gather beneath an azure banner, Bearing the stars of the night sky; The flag is a symbol of our freedom, For which those few we toast did die. For those who fell in the name of freedom, Now charge your glass and raise it high, And join me in toasting those few fallen, Until the glass you hold runs dry! © 2015 Jason van Dongen |
