A Walk Upon the Sand at NightA Poem by Jason van DongenThis is a poem about a man walking on the beach at night.
A man walks upon the sand at night,
Thinking deep thoughts by a deeper sea, Until his thoughts are given their flight, By the sea and its majesty. As he walks upon the wave-swept shore, Light twinkles on the roiling swell. He breathes deeply and his spirits soar, Under the sea's compelling spell. But as the wind sweeps o'er the dune, It sends a shiver down the man's back. And he notes despite the light of the moon, The depths of the sea are ink black. His imaginings turn to the unreal, As goose-flesh rises on his skin; What secrets do the depths conceal, And what sea monsters lurk therein? It's the workings of his own dark soul, That truly give the man a fright, For he owns the fear - it's his to control - As he walks upon the sand at night. © 2014 Jason van Dongen |
