The Creatures of the Night.

The Creatures of the Night.

A Poem by Jason van Dongen
"

In this poem, I employ 'the creatures of the night' as a metaphor for schizophrenia.

"

My heart, once a temple to peace and to love,

Is a refuge for the beasts of the night;

It is a shell of what it was once because,

All the beauty has since taken flight.

It could be said that the creatures came first,

And drove all the beauty away;

Whether it happened that way or reversed,

Matters not, for the dark creatures stay.

One day, I am sure I’ll be free of the beasts,

And my heart will once again be,

Filled with a measure of love and of peace,

And beauty, and passion, and glee.
