The Lost SonA Poem by Jason van DongenThis poem is about a woman who raised her son to be moral and principled, but he falls in with a wrong crowd and rebels against her values.A mother’s heart is slowly breaking; Her son’s heart follows pride. His reckless passion fuels her aching; She wishes him by her side. Her better years were spent endowing Her son with all his needs, But despite years spent in ploughing, Her garden grows only weeds. He scorns her now and mocks her creed; Her head is bowed in sorrow. She will ever love her seed; But he lives for tomorrow. If, dear reader, I’ve touched a care, And you feel this woman’s plight I ask you now to spare a prayer, For her son and his short sight. © 2013 Jason van Dongen |
