'Distant Existence'

'Distant Existence'

A Poem by Jason S Breed

I want to save the world
The young man sat with beer in hand.
Sobriety in head
But cushioned by alcohol.
What do you mean?
A hollow voice from behind the bar
Grabbing clam-handed at the silver-lined leaves
Stopped and grasped at a thread of reality.
Like I said, I wanted to save the world,
But then I realised if I save the world
Would the world save me?
Another beer?

With this the young man realised
He was dead again.
He wanted to return to the Earth.
He wished to exist
With cannibalistic worms,
Eating away at his rotting flesh
Compassionately.
