Whole

Whole

A Poem by Jasmine Kaur

You and I

I and you

We and us

Together, we shall discover what makes us human

What makes us flawed, vulnerable, and so real

Not in order to change it, but in order to keep it that way

Just as flawed as it is

For we are those flaws

Those flaws are us

You are me

I am you

We are us

We ask each other questions

Without really seeking answers

We love each other

Without expecting to be loved in return

The simplest kind, the cleanest kind

For only when you do not need a person

Can you truly want them

Only when you are not seeking love

Can you really give any

I cannot entice you with my face

Or beguile you with the wonders of my body

For they mean little to you

The body is just a receptacle you say

You want what is inside

And so I dig deeper

Looking for what I had never found myself

It is funny how all this time I lived my life all wrong

It is funny how I managed to live at all

Because you see, living for other people is not living

That is the slowest form of death

For it takes a little bit out of you every day

Till you have nothing left inside

Barren, plucked, and dry

Left with nothing else but a confused sigh

Until you came and breathed life into me once again

Made me fall in love with myself

Made me see what I had

So I would know what to give

And this time I shall offer it with my own hands

The receptacle shall pour itself out, voluntarily

This time its treasures shall not be plundered

They shall be offered, with dignity and strength

I will give you all I have and more

We shall collapse into each others’ arms like we did before

Without a word of explanation

We shall not hide

From each other or the world

People say our love is formless, undefined

We say that’s what makes it beautiful

Like an amorphous cloud

Taking the shape that your eyes want it to

We do not push away our fears

Together, we embrace them

Allowing them to consume us

Till we are nothing again

Emptiness

Because emptiness cannot be tarnished

Emptiness cannot be broken

Emptiness cannot be hurt

Our emptiness is our strength

Nothing can be taken away from us now

For there is nothing there

No fear, no inhibitions, no scars

We start life anew

The way we want to

Our world

Made with our hands

Weathered, bruised hands

Intelligent hands

We shall live our dreams now

Become who we want to be

Laugh together, learn together, fail together

Calm madness, mad calmness

And all through we shall know

That love is only what you make it

So we can live in each others’ spaces

And be whole again

Wow.
Firstly, I really liked this and agree with every syllable. We can't love until we learn to love ourselves, but very few people know that.
Secondly, It's hard now a days to find someone who wants what's in the inside. Who wants to see that hidden thing buried deep within the pits of our soul. But, very few people are like that.
Well written, true and touching. Beautiful job :)
