Defeating TemptationA Poem by Flying FreeJust because I'm a Christian it doesn't mean temptation doesn't come at me. But Christ leads me back to Him.Ah, how I am in love with Christ! My God has opened my eyes He has answered questions, granted me mercy And revealed the truth behind the lies Since my salvation the world has groaned Another soul has been set free In its mourning of its loss It sends my past loves to tempt me As I dance and twirl about in faith My soul laughs and sings in praise But the earth lets loose upon my path My favorite drug in my dark days My heart gasps in remembrance Of the fire beneath my skin As he calls softly with open arms I feel the burning churn with sin Like a snake he slivers through me Whispering memories of the flame “Remember when you loved me” “Come back to me, let go of shame” With his song he gently places At my feet like sweet breadcrumbs Each piece of pleasure I used to treasure And I want badly to succumb And then the voice of Jesus whispers “My child, my friend, don’t close your eyes. The flesh enjoys the things it loves But flesh is flesh and flesh will die. “The things your soul is yearning for Are things God will provide With permanence, not temporary Pleasures of your hide.” My heart flipped almost out of me At the truth that was revealed And to my knees I sank in prayer And God covered me with His shield To the darkness I looked back And held my chin up high “I’ve found my love, my one true love! It isn’t you. Goodbye.” With loving arms, God embraced me I wept in embarrassment and shame He only smiled and shook his head “My daughter is back today.” © 2011 Flying Free |
