Who can ease your broken heart? Is it someone else? Is it the one who broke your heart in the first place? Or is the healing coming from within yourself? This questions really has been within me for a while now. Let me tell you about a simple story:

Typical story of a boy meets girl. This is not what it happens. It started when the Girl naïve in her own way of life. The hardship being in an unconventional family. The struggle with what she wants in life. Specially now she is on her mid-year of school. Feeling there is something lacking in her life. The Girl asked and prayed to God. To give her a sign, any sign. To her true love. The one where she can feel genuine love and be loved in return. Fortunately for her, God hear her plea.

The Boy is long has been schoolmate with the Girl for a few years now. At first, the Girl seems to be not important with the Boy. There is nothing special between them nor be friends with each other. It seems that they have each of their own set of friends and company. There is no love at first sight kind of happening also. There is nothing that could denote of any special something between them. Until the day, that cupid played matchmaker.

Not long ago that the Boy and the Girl bonded one day during one of their classes. They enjoyed each other’s company. Always talking about what not. Ideas. Thoughts. This is not oblivious to the fact that the Girl have a lot of friends who are boys. So, this is nothing to the Girl. Noting that, she may be going on with constant companion to her soulmate/punching bag friend. Where the Boy is also aware of. Though in the Girl’s heart, having a platonic friend is nice to have. He’s nothing but a friend. With a few constant conversations with the Boy. The Girl enjoyed more and more his company. Unaware of any feelings that may arise. Until one day, when the Boy did not go to the class where the Girl had. The Girl felt sad and empty. Wondering why she felt that way. The void that hurt her. Could this be something? Is this a sign from the heavens? She felt lost without him and it bothers her. Then she asked one of the Boy’s friends and found out that he was sick. And so, the Girl waited for another day of two for the Boy to go to school. And so, the Girl was happy when the Boy finally went to school that other day. They found out that they missed each other so much. For the Girl, this feeling never happened before to any of her friends who are boys. This feeling, she only felt with the Boy. So unusual and reeling. The same goes with the Boy. It seems there is something between them that only them can feel.

And so, the Boy began courting the Girl. At first, the Girl was hesitant with her feelings. That she began to pray harder to give her more signs from the heaven. She did not give her consent yet to the Boy right away. She is thinking that maybe the Boy is playing with her feelings. But as the days go by. It seems that the feelings that the Boy had to the Girl has becoming truer and truer. And so, the Girl is more convinced that the Boy love her truly. The only complicated thing with the Girl is. She vowed to not have any relationship while in her studies. Which the Boy had known. And which the Girl cannot break supposedly. But then love, moves them in mysterious ways. It is something that cannot be prevented. And so, the Boy and the Girl decided to go with what they are feeling. The only catch that they will do is to hide the relationship in secret. This is for the Girl’s future to not be compromised. Then comes one problem with the Girl. As she was supposed to give up her studies. But the Boy encourage her to continue with her studies. This gives the Girl the courage to tell her parents to have her continue her studies. The true reason being. The Girl does not want to lose the Boy. She truly loved him. She is ready for the uncertain future of not finishing her studies. But it seems she cannot take the point of losing him in all the process. So, she fights for him to continue with her studies. With this they continue to finish their studies. The Boy was happy with the Girl’s decision. They continue to love each other secretly. Though in some time their friends and colleagues notice something different between them. They really tried to hide their relationship. The Boy cared so much of the Girl’s future that he respects the decision made. Even though it hurts him. If he goes to be with her. It’s the thought of losing each other that the Boy and the Girl cannot take. And so, they lived with the secret love that they had.

You will know that the Boy loved the Girl so much. When he started to talk about the Girl with his friends. He loved him so much that his friends will ask the Girl, what did you do to our friend? Why he always talks about you? Even telling me good traits about the Boy. Little thing did they know that the Girl and the Boy is already smitten with each other. The Boy tried to meet up with the Girl in secret. You will see that they love each other when they see each other eye to eye. Adoring each other. The love as pure. The feeling so real and unique to them. But then, they may realize that love is not enough for this to move on to the next level.

But then, there are factors that needs to be considered. The Girl still hanging out with her friends who are boys. You will see the Boy is very jealous with her boy friends. Though he knows already who are them to her. There is another scenario where the Girl was seen by the Boy together with her soul mate having lunch. The only thought that the Girl had is that the Boy already know who she was with. And there is nothing special between them. Though she cannot avoid going out with her friends with the notion to cover up her relationship with him. This may be the last straw with the Boy. And so, everything is in radio silence.

The deafening silence the goes a long way. Made the Girl confused. When the Boy started not to go to school anymore. Even asking with his friends, she cannot get any concrete reason and idea. The Boy managed to vanish into thin air. Only to hear that the Boy will not continue with his studies anymore. This made the Girl very furious, angry, desperate and hurt. The Girl cried like she never cried before. What is more damaging, is to lose a loved one who is still living but cannot see anymore. Than the one we lost because of death. There are lots if unanswered questions for the Girl. That she lost her being. She lost all her interest. There are lots of sleepless nights. Some other time, the Girl will be awakened without any reason than just to cry. It seems that the Girl invested too much into this feeling that there is nothing left of her. Than to hate, be angry, be desperate, question everything and be hurt. The day goes on just with anything, but you will not see any sign of cheerfulness with the Girl. The break-up caused a lot of speculations and talks with their circle of friends. The Girl even do not know all the feelings she had. The Girl will only want to cry again and again. Even confiding to her closest friends where they will cry together. The Girl has lost her world. She had lost her purpose once again. But this time it seems her all being is gone. Left with nothing and no purpose.

The only thing that was left for her is the promise she made with him to finish her studies. Even though it hurts for her to be with the same places where she can see herself with him. She can only continue to pretend. But her body shows how badly hurt she was. There are times with the Girl that she can only think of is to have her memory lost. Still she is holding on with her promise. And the thought that someday answers will be given. No matter how long, she will wait for all the answers to her questions.

The Girl had finished her studies as promised. The first thing that came up to her mind. Is to find the Boy. She did not know where to look. But she knows he need to find him. So, the Girl flew to another city to begin the search. With the perspective the new city has to give. The Girl can feel some new beginnings. But still the Boy is still the only goal in her mind. She needs to seek him. She feels she can only move on if she can find all the answers to those questions. Even she is living her new life, she still remembered everything about the Boy. It seems to be a habit every year to remember the Boy and all the good and bad feelings she had for him. It seems that the Girl has not moved on yet. Even to the long years that she suffered. She can only suffer more. It seems to be a regular mantra to the Girl. The naiveness with her surroundings. Until one day, she accepts a call from her friend. Telling her that the Boy had finally showed up to one of their get together. Tears immediately trickle down the Girls face. The feeling that still lingers. The feeling is indescribable. To the point where speech was lost. Until the Girl regained her composure and went with the get together with friends. At first there was an awkward feeling with group. As their friends know what has happened before. But then the Girl and the Boy still pretended like no past has coming on between them. Until when the Boy and the Girl go home together. Is as if all the questions that the Girl has vanished as they walked home. The only question that the Girl asked is, “How are you? How are things going with you?”. As stupid as it goes it is the only questions that the Girl can ask. The Boy replied that he is okay. He also confides that the reason why he is gone without saying is because he cannot afford to continue his studies anymore due to financial reasons. But the Girl know deep inside that there is a deeper meaning. Until the Girl bidding her goodbye to the Boy. But the Boy held her hand pulled the Girl in his arms. Hugging her tight and kissed her. Tears trickled down on the Girl’s face. But this time, it seems all the hate, the anger, the desperation are all gone. The Girl can feel again the familiar feeling that she shared with the Boy. Happiness and joy. Finally, the Girl was able to move on.

It was clear as the day, that there is no going back with the Boy. As life takes its toll to make wonders for both the Boy and the girl for each of their lives separately. It is now clear with the Girl that The Boy came into her life to clarify all the things that doubted her before. That the Boy is an instrument for her to continue her studies. The Boy give her back the sense of purpose in life. Even if the purpose then is for them. Even for the reason being is because of the Boy. That life moves in all directions that gives meaning to a point in life that is present. That memories are good. But the love that the Boy and Girl shared is true and will last forever. No matter where their lives will take each of them separately. One time, they glance each other once again in a crowded place. They still meet eye to eye. They can both understand that the feeling is still there. Though the feeling is now just a feeling.

Still every year around fall, the Girl still reminisce everything. It seems that the Girl’s heart does not know how to forget. No matter how many years had passed. Somehow the hurt and specially the love, is here to stay. This is why the Girl celebrates what she calls “heartbreak-sary” every year. Some other times she will just remember him and what they used to have. Sometimes anger prevails. Still, always goes with the same ending, crying. It seems for the Girl cannot prevent this from happening every year. So, every year that this come up, all that the Girl can do is to savor the moment. The Girl would write the feelings and the memories again and again. Feel the feeling she felt again. One thing is for certain, "This too shall pass".
